Protein

I grew up on a farm and understand the love of meat – we support our own and our taste buds are satisfied and our tummies full.  So why do we limit meat on this program?

Increases the Risk of Heart Disease

We know that statistics show that Heart Disease in one of the top killers of Americans today.  The major contributor is the consumption of meat as it is high in saturated fat.  Saturated fat raises our blood cholesterol that causes plaque to clog our arteries.  Did you know that 64% of eggs calories from fat?  Also chicken contains as much cholesterol as beef.  Trimming the fat does not help either as the saturated fat is marbled throughout the muscle.

Studies show it increases risk of Cancer

One study for example in 2007 British Journal of Cancer found that women who ate meat were more likely to develop breast cancer compared to those you consumed the least.

Meat Contributes to Osteoporosis

When you eat meat the blood becomes acidic, which leads to all sorts of problems including leaching minerals from bones which will make bones weak.

Meat is hard to Digest

We all know that fiber helps move things through the intestines.  Meat has absolutely no fiber.  High meat consumption can has been a recognized factor in colitis and diverticulitis.

Meat is full of antibiotics

Family farms raise a large of number animals and as prevention antibiotics are used as a preventative measure.   According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, 70 percent of the antibiotics sold in the United State go to livestock – then we eat the animal!

Meat is full of Hormones

Cattle, pigs, and chickens are routinely pumped full of hormones to promote muscle mass, and these hormones are passed directly to us when we consume this meat.

It is extremely important to be informed about the food you are putting into your body and your families.  This program initially voids meat from the diet most importantly for the healing time of the gut.  Approx 1 month into the program you will allow to add meat- do so sparingly, remembering these important points!
